Finally, this Forum's most interesting thread for 3 years running returns and not a moment too soon given the cobwebs and crickets. The straw that stirs the Boston Sports forum's drink is back.

UMass has a lot of new faces on this year's edition most notably ESPN's #49 overall Terrell Vinson. UMass' success this year hinges on Coach Prodigy's ability to get the newcomers up to speed quickly and David Gibbs's development at the point. It's hard to know how much losing Lowe and Gaffney (and even Luke Bonner who became more than servicable) will affect a team that sputtered more than a few times with the AASAA. For all the good Travis Ford did, his "don't worry, we'll just score more than they do" mentality about defense was the biggest hurdle that the program encountered in the transition. Everyone returning either has had a year learning what defense means to the coach or is new and doesn't have to unlearn anything in that regard. Anthony Gurley will be 1st team All A-10 and a favorite for A-10 POY in '10-'11.

Projection (season): 18-12 with wins over BCS conf. schools Rutgers/BC/Seton Hall/Baylor. 5th in the league, A-10 semi-finalists, deep NIT run. Also, and perhaps most notably, inking by far the best recruiting class in the A-10 for '10/'11 along the way.

Prediction (thread): 45+ pages, never lower than 6th on the topic list.

Unlike the NCAA I recognize that UMass has played in a Final Four. I can't say the same for BC.

Losing Rice can't be that big of a deal. He didn't even play in a NBA Summer League.
